Our Property

Hofland Expeditions bought in 2005, a piece of ground in Mto wa mbo, this area lies near Lake Manyara and the ground borders the Rift Valley. This ground (a small part of total) has been bought from a Maasai, the property has been in possession of his family for hundreds of years. One of the conditions when signing the paper was that we must build three school buildings, and that the Maasai must be involved in the construction, this means that they monitor the area, in Tanzania they are famous for this, they possess always spears and panga's (large knifes). Also we want to give you the opportunity to visit a Maasai village, so you can see how these people life, for this they get some compensation, and you can buy souvenirs and original Maasai woodcrafts. By doing this we try to give these people a better existence to live, and to give you a beautiful experience.

The total surface of the area amounts to 250 Acres (100 hectares), and on the property there are three big hills, were we want to build Lodges or a Luxurious Tented Camp in the near future. On top of the hills you have a fantastic view over the Maasai grass lands, in the distance you see Lake Manyara, and adjacent to the property  the Great Rift Valley, where zebras, giraffes, wildebeests, ostriches, Thomson gazelles and other groups off wild animals graze. With a little bit of luck, one or more of these groups of wild animals will walk very near to your accommodation.
